There is something timeless about A-frame cabins, with their cozy charm, triangular silhouette, and connection to nature. When I first walked into this one, the space felt dark and heavy, filled with old furniture and layers of clutter, a little forgotten over time. Still, beneath it all, I saw incredible potential. My vision was to transform this dated cabin into a mid-century modern retreat that felt bright, inviting, and full of character, while preserving the charm that made it special in the first place.

The Vision
From the start, I wanted this remodel to feel like a true escape, a space where modern design meets natural warmth. The goal was to highlight the cabin’s architectural beauty while introducing mid-century modern elements that bring balance, comfort, and a touch of sophistication. I envisioned open spaces filled with light, simple lines that draw attention to the structure, and carefully chosen finishes that create harmony throughout.
Every detail was meant to serve a purpose, to make the cabin feel fresh and elevated, yet still grounded in its rustic surroundings. The end result would be a space that feels timeless and personal, a perfect blend of vintage soul and modern design.

The Transformation
The original cabin was dark, cramped, and filled with old furniture and clutter. I wanted to bring in light by removing all the clutter and rethinking the layout to maximize the sunlight from the large windows. The wood beams were left untouched to preserve their charm, but we made them stand out against walls painted in a light color, bringing warmth and brightness to the space.
The kitchen layout was carefully planned to add more storage, featuring blue cabinetry that brought new life to the old kitchen. Wall shelves were added for both storage and styling, while clean countertops created an airy, open feel, allowing guests to move easily in the compact kitchen.
Every corner was thoughtfully considered, from furniture placement to lighting and finishes. The goal was to preserve the cabin’s cozy, rustic charm while introducing mid-century modern touches that make it feel fresh, bright, and inviting.
By the end, the transformation was undeniable. What was once a dark, forgotten cabin became a welcoming, stylish retreat — a space that feels both timeless and completely lived-in, ready to host guests in its new life as an Airbnb.

Finishing Touches
While the structural changes brought light and flow to the cabin, it was the finishing touches that truly brought the space to life.
Refined finishes like warm wood accents and light-colored walls highlight the cabin’s natural charm while keeping the space bright and inviting. Cozy rugs, soft throws, and textured pillows create comfort and invite guests to linger. Carefully curated décor — artwork, plants, and thoughtful accessories — adds personality without overwhelming the space. Statement lighting and layered fixtures ensure every corner is well-lit, welcoming, and functional. Open shelving, clean countertops, and clever storage solutions keep the kitchen and living areas airy and easy to use.
These small, intentional details make the cabin feel complete, cozy, and personal, transforming it into a space that guests immediately connect with.

The Result
As a designer, I believe every home deserves a chance to reach its full potential and showcase its unique personality. This Airbnb retreat has recently been well-loved by guests and praised for its charm and thoughtful decoration.
